A “Batman With Guns” PvP Game

How’s this for a game pitch: a player vs. player shooter set in Batman‘s city, where players create customized “imitation” characters based on Batman and Joker, and shoot it out with one another. Wow. Talk about a bold concept.

That’s the premise behind Gotham City Imposters, which is coming soon to download-only platforms Xbox Live, PSN, and Windows PC. Developed by Monolith and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the idea is to bring multiplayer mayhem to Gotham City in a way that lets developers use guns while not violating Batman’s code of conduct (the dark knight himself never uses guns).

Warner Bros. already has two major game franchises that prominently feature Batman (the Batman: Arkham games & DC Universe Online), but this is the first time that FPS master developer Monolith (No One Lives Forever, F.E.A.R.) has taken on the Bat. Their game is sure to bring something different and fun to fans.

DC Comics’ Jim Lee reportedly loved the idea behind Gotham City Imposters so much that he began weaving its backstory into longrunning Batman title Detective Comics. As WBIE‘s press release puts it, “Posing as amateur vigilantes or villains, gamers will create their very own Bats and Jokerz characters using unprecedented customization options including insane costumes, homebrewed gadgets, and a wide range of traditional and imagined weapons.”
